Flash flood watch issued for Metro Atlanta, Central Georgia (VIDEO)

2/11/2013

Most of metro Atlanta and central Georgia and are under a Flash Flood Watch until Monday afternoon as heavy rain moves through the area. The watch was issued because of recent rainfall; runoff from rain expected over the next few days could cause lower-lying areas to flood.

Fox 5 News forecast between 1 and 3 inches of rain in most areas with the possibility of higher amounts in some areas. There may be some thunderstorms associated with this system, but the majority of the severe weather is expected to stay outside the north Georgia and metro Atlanta area.

Generally the Flash Flood Watch runs from a line from Buchanan to Atlanta to Danielsville and north of a line from Columbus to Macon to Warrenton.

A Flood Warning has been issued ahead of the storm for Big Creek in Forsyth and Fulton counties. The waterway is expected to swell a foot above flood stage, but will not heavily impact any populated areas.

A chance of rain continues through Wednesday.
