CHAMBLEE: Pedestrian deaths bring gridlock to I-85 (VIDEO)

Police in Atlanta's northeast suburbs say three men were struck and killed by a pickup as they attempted to walk across a freeway near the start of the morning rush hour.

DeKalb County police spokeswoman Mekka Parish said the crash happened around 5 a.m. Tuesday on Interstate 85, near the Chamblee-Tucker Road exit.

All southbound lanes of the freeway were blocked for nearly two hours. By 7:45 a.m., all lanes had reopened.

Moments after the crash, two bodies could be seen on the pavement in the two right lanes of the freeway as a DeKalb County police car blocked those lanes. Shortly after that, more police cars and fire trucks arrived and all southbound lanes were closed.

Parish said it wasn't clear why the men were trying to cross I-85.
