The Truth About Toilet Seats: Do they really transport germs? (VIDEO)

Lots of women choose to hover over toilet seats, while others pluck a handy paper liner out of the dispenser and use that.

Apparently neither action is necessary, as toilet seats don’t transport germs.

Dr. William Schaffner, professor of preventative medicine at Vanderbilt University Medical Center, says that the idea that toilets are dirty and spread STDs is a myth.

A test of bathroom surfaces revealed you could actually eat off of a toilet, as it was the cleanest part of the bathroom. The dirtiest area of the bathroom? The floor, it had about two million bacteria per square inch.

Schaffner says there can be bacteria on the surface of a toilet, but that the germs won't get into your body through your butt, and the best preventative measure you can take is simply washing your hands with soap and water.
