FIVE MILLION TONS!!! - That's the amount of trash that Americans produce between Thanksgiving and New Year's Day each year, and 25% more than we generate in a typical 6 week period during the rest of the year!

So this year, why not lighten your holiday waste load?
Here are a few ideas on how you can....

1- Send postcards instead of a traditional holiday cards. Postcards don't need envelopes and it costs less postage to send them, so you save on wasted paper and money!

2- Buy rechargeable batteries to power up electronic presents.

3- Don't trash the tree! Find a place to recycle it at www.Earth911.com.

4- Same thing goes for packing peanuts- Nowadays, lots of people gift shop online and packages arrive boxed up with styrofoam packing peanuts. The UPS Store will accepts your used, clean packing peanuts to reuse for future packing. Go Brown!

Save Some $Green$ While Going Green!

Can we save the Earth and still save a little in our piggy banks? Yes!
Here are 4 tips on how to save some green while going green:

1- Buy Organic House Brands: Most people, including me, associate the word “organic” with “expensive.” But retailers are starting to include organic items in their affordable house brands, ie: Whole Foods’ 365 Organic and Target’s Archer Farms. You can save, on average, over $1 per item over other organic brands.

2- Shop Local, Later: Going to the farmers’ market right before it closes will allow you big discounts on local produce because vendors don't want to head home with perishable goods.

3- Use Concentrated Formulas:
If you're using “green” cleaning products to clean your home try Arm & Hammer’s Essentials line. The concentrated formula makes 2 x's the amount of cleaning solution for the same price as some non–earth-friendly ones, and less ...

What to do with those old cellular phones and the batteries/accessories that come with them?...
Throwing them in the garbage is a HUGE no-no.
The toxic elements they contain should NOT be going into our landfills!

But, how do you recycle them? It just got so much easier!...
Serious props to Verizon Wireless and their HopeLine Program!
HopeLine was created by Verizon Wireless more than a decade ago to support efforts in domestic violence awareness, prevention, and victim assistance.

Donate your old and/or unused wireless phones, batteries and accessories, in any condition from any wireless service provider to any Verizon Wireless retail location in Georgia and they will be recycled for this very important cause.
All cellular donations are refurbished or recycled, and the generated funds are used to purchase new wireless phones with airtime for victims, or to fund domestic violence prevention and awareness programs.

REUSE! -
Before you put that plastic bottle or glass jar in your recycle bin, think if there is something else you could use it for once or twice before it gets recycled.

Examples:
1- Wash out empty Cool Whip containers and use them to pack lunch.
2- Empty jelly jars make cute vases for little bundles of flowers.
3- Use old plastic shopping bags to line the bathroom waste baskets.

Re-using things helps cut down on waste, saves energy by reducing production, and can save you $$$!
