I had the pleasure of spending time with Arlene Goldstein, VP of Trend Merchandising and Fashion Direction for Belk, Inc. She has an extensive background in the fashion industry for over 25 years, so when I was invited to view Belk’s Fall 2009 Style Statements, I jumped at the opportunity. Mrs. Goldstein takes us through the exciting styles for the fall season with patterns, textiles and various color combos that will insure you’re ready for the season.

One of the most worn items in your closet will be a pair of jeans. Jeans are versatile and TIMELESS. They can be worn to just about any occasion. Jeans are what you make them. Wear them with a tank and add a fabulous piece of jewelry for a casual day of shopping or throw on the hot new Boyfriend Jacket to give them a more sophisticated look.
I’m all about comfortable clothing! Leggings are a way to bring comfort into your wardrobe and still be fashionable. If you wear them right, leggings can be super sexy and stylish on all body types. I like to wear black leggings with a tunic that hits me mid-thigh with some strappy high-heel sandals or boots. Thinner legs can handle leggings with a tight fitting hip length tunic worn with heels or flats for a sexy classy look. Layering your outfit over leggings is also very hip and trendy for the fall season.
Here are some of my favorite looks…..

Over the past couple of years, one of the newest, hottest fashion trends is Going Green. Fashion t-shirts, jeans made out of organic cottons and dresses are really hitting the fashion scene hard. Green; meaning made by villagers in India, Africa and South America who are being paid fairly for the artisan work. Consumers are opting to buy popular fashion from retailers and designers that are concerned about fair trade and organic farming.

This week’s feature item is from Common Threadz. Their CelebriTees are designed by celebrities and with each t-shirt purchased, a school uniform is donated to an orphan and $5 is a donation to Project Reina. Check out www.commonthreadz.com for more information.
