Want to know how long you can keep foods past their expiration date?
Are you one of those people who pour the milk down the drain on the expiration date? Expiration dates on food products can protect consumer health, but those dates are really more about quality than safety, and if not properly understood, they can also encourage consumers to discard food that is perfectly safe to eat. A recent poll of more than 2,000 adults showed that most of us discard food we believe is unsafe to eat, which is a good thing, of course, but it is important that we understand what food expiration dates mean before we dump our food -- and our money -- down the drain or into the garbage. On average, in the U.S. we waste about 14% of the food we buy each year. The average American family of four throws out around $600 worth of groceries every year.  Which five foods are most often feared as being unsafe after the printed date? According to ShelfLifeAdvice.com, we are most wary of milk, cottage cheese, mayonnaise, yogurt, and eggs, and the site offers these helpful explanations: Milk: If properly refrigerated, milk will remain safe, nutritious, and tasty for about a week after the sell-by date and will ...

Wayne Newton parks his plane in his back yard!
Wayne Newton has finally relocated the $2 million private jet he had previously abandoned at a Detroit airport three years ago ... and it's now right in his own backyard -- literally.   According to employees at the Oakland International Airport, Wayne -- who left the plane to rot after repairs became too expensive -- finally paid the aircraft's mounting storage fees last month and had it shipped to his famous Casa de Shenandoah estate in Las Vegas. We're told the plane had to be disassembled to make the long haul from Michigan to Nevada -- but it has since been put back together ... and now resides in the yard of Wayne's Las Vegas estate for all to see. This is now the second loose end involving sky miles that Wayne has tied up recently ... we've also learned Wayne just settled a $500k debt with his former pilot. As we previously reported, Monty Ward won a $501,388 judgment against "Mr. Las Vegas" back in 2009 for unpaid wages. But now ... according to documents filed in Clark County, Nevada last week, Monty "acknowledges full satisfaction" of the debt ... which means the two are now officially even-steven.

Check out the link here! http://www.pawnation.com/2010/07/27/should-you-sleep-with-your-dog-the-pros-and-cons-of-sharing-the/?icid=main%7Cmain%7Cdl5%7Csec3_lnk3%7C167182   In the darkest hours of Bruce Sallan's divorce when he didn't want to get out of bed, his two dogs were there jumping on the mattress and licking his face. And when his worries kept him awake at night, the big black German Shepherd mix and the Pointer mix with brown and white spots were there then too, lying beside him on top of the covers. "Petting one of my dogs was almost like a way I'd calm myself down and fall asleep," says Sallan, a writer and radio host in California. But then he met and married Debbie, who had a dog of her own but suffered from allergies and liked her furniture free of dirt and hair. She was adamant: "No dogs in bed." "He would have his dog on the bed and there would be dog hair on my pillow and I'd be sneezing," Debbie tells Paw Nation. The solution? She spent several hundred dollars on plush beds for all three dogs and ultimately, everyone was happy. The StatsSome pet owners may be sheepish to admit it, but Sallan is far from alone. A 2007 survey of more than ...
